5 tips if you are PCS;ing

by Andrew Iremonger

Moving during the holidays can be a real pain but the Emerald Group has you covered with 5 Tips about PCS'ing during the holiday season.

Tip 1: Be sure to pack a box of decorations and anything else you may need to celebrate the holiday season while you are traveling. Whether this is a box of your favorite decorations with a small tree, or pots and pans and such that you may need to cook that holiday ham, bring it along with you.

Tip 2: Try to get a contact at your next duty location that you can send gifts and packages to. This can be a friend, a sponsor or a soon to be co-worker. If they are able to store some packages for you while you are traveling into town, that would greatly reduce the number of boxes in the limited space you may have while driving cross country, or cross the globe.

Tip 3: If you are coming into town before the holiday season has finished, ask your children's teachers if they are doing a holiday party. This will give the kiddo's a chance to get aquainted with their soon to be classmates before the winter break. This will also get them excited and ease some of those "first day" nerves if it's just a fun party style environment.

Tip 4: Plan for extra time. Whether you are flying or driving, the holiday season always incurs extra time in travel. Traffic and bad weather can definitely play it's toll on drive and flight times. This way, if you plan a few extra hours or even days, you won't be dissapointed if you get there later.

Tip 5: If you are Listed during the holidays, keep your Agent in mind. Letting your Real Estate Professional know when you may have guests in town, or that you have an influx of boxes and such scattered about will help with showings and setting expectations. This way, when there is a showing, there are no surprises and the potential home buyer will know what to expect.

What are some of your top tips for moving during the Holiday season?
