Where To Move From California - Moving To The Emerald Coast Area
Dated: October 30 2020
We have been getting a higher than average volume of calls and messages from people moving from California to Florida so I wanted to explain why moving to the Destin area might be the right move for you, if you are in that situation.
Honestly, we get so many phone calls, emails, and texts. So we came up with the most important cost of living items to look at when you are relocating, so whether you plan to move here, just doing a little research, or you just got orders to move to one of our local bases, we have your back with everything you need to know. Let us jump right into a few costs of living differences between California and Florida.
· Housing prices
o The average home price in Florida is $245k vs California where it is $553k – take your equity out of your home and live like a KING here in Florida, namely here along the Emerald Coast
o Now you may not be purchasing right away so let’s look into rental numbers.
o In Florida, an average rental price across the board is just shy of $1600 per month, In California that average is just shy of $2200 per month.
o Now each city in our area will vary so depending on the type of atmosphere, you would like to live in, you can choose from our other Cost of Living videos for each section.
· Top Jobs
o Let’s take a look a little more local and discuss the type of work that is most commonly found out here. For you retiree’s this may not matter but to anyone who needs to stay employed these are the most common industries.
o First and foremost, our Military clearly takes the cake and is the most common job in the area. This is followed by the Education career field, Medical, Retail, County Government, Defense Contractors, and any other Contractors related to the Military/Government.
o This leads us to the most important portion of the video, what the heck are the advantages of this location?
o Overall Cost of Living and Florida takes the advantage here.
o When it comes to taxes, the main reason so many are leaving California as it is, I imagine, Florida has the advantage again. Particularly for those still working because Florida does not take state income tax. Florida also has a sales tax rate of 6% vs California you can expect a 7.25% sales tax and up to 12.3% income tax rate, this adds up quickly.
o There is no snow on the Emerald Coast, but this could be a positive or a negative depending on if that is the sort of thing you are into
o If you are into fishing our very own Destin is dubbed the worlds luckiest fishing village for a reason, whether you are looking to throw a line off a pier in the sound or go deep-sea fishing, we have you covered.
o We are a truly short distance away from some pretty fun outdoor activities and everything from camping to tubing down a river to hitting some off-road trails are all great options. We may not have the mountains near us, but we do have a lot of the same options.
Talking about more hyper-local stuff, for those that aren’t familiar with the channel, this entire channel is dedicated to showcasing off the area so feel free to poke around and see if the Emerald Coast lifestyle is right for you!
